Day rate formula

A practical Dubai freelance day rate starts with the monthly revenue you need, adds a buffer for business overhead and unpaid work, then divides the result by realistic billable days.

Simple formula: target monthly income × business buffer ÷ billable days = day rate floor.

What to include before quoting

  • Actual delivery days you can sell after admin, sales, calls, and client follow-up.
  • Software, accounting, payment delays, sick days, licensing, and quiet pipeline weeks.
  • Meeting load, response expectations, revision rounds, and project management time.
  • Urgency, on-site requirements, weekend work, and specialist expertise.
  • Any VAT, licensing, or contract questions that need official guidance or qualified advice.

Example

If your monthly income target is AED 20,000, your buffer is 30%, and you can reliably sell 10 delivery days per month, the day-rate floor is AED 2,600.

That is not a market guarantee. It is the minimum number that stops "busy month" from becoming "broke with invoices", a classic business model with terrible reviews.
